    key facts

  • 4.2 million Iraqis have been displaced by the current conflict according to U.N. estimates. Of these there are now over 1 million Iraqi refugees in Syria alone. According to a UNCHR spokesperson at least 60,000 Iraqis are losing their homes and becoming refugees every month.

  • Only an extremely small number of Iraqis refugees have been granted sanctuary in the United States. A May 25th, 2007 article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer noted that within the previous seven months only 69 Iraqis had been granted refuge in America.
